This is an exciting development opportunity perfect for someone who is interested in establishing a career within health and safety.   The successful candidate will not only have the opportunity to study towards formal qualifications but gain excellent on the job experience working across Council Services.

The successful post holder will assist the Health and Safety Officer to fulfil duties such as undertaking and reviewing risk assessments, monitoring of accident statistics, identifying and developing training needs and delivering toolbox talks and safety briefings to all staff members.

You will also support the maintenance and review of the Council’s Emergency Plan and assist with the administration of key health and safety records, including training records, Display Screen Equipment (DSE) assessments, driver licence checks, vehicle records and fire evacuation testing.

You will have good IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Access; together with good literacy and numeracy skills. You will be organised, able to work on your own initiative and keen to learn and develop.

Apprentices normally attend work 4 days per week and college one day. During the apprenticeship, you will work towards and be fully supported to achieve the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Technician Level 3 standard.  The apprentice will be employed for approximately 2 years. Eligibility criteria is at least 5 GCSE’s Grade 4/C or above, including English and Mathematics.

Pendle is in Lancashire’s scenic Pennines, close to the Yorkshire Dales, Lake District, and Manchester.
